In the Arizona high school football game of the week, the Liberty Lions dominated the Hamilton Huskies 38-7 in impressive fashion.

After losing to Basha a month ago, Liberty head coach Colin Thomas said he's liked how his team has improved and matured over the weeks.

“The Basha game got away from us in the third quarter,” Thomas said. “We’re a pretty young team, and they had not been in that spot. We worked really hard on getting better and improving.”

Kicking things off, the Lions' defense forced a turnover on the first play from scrimmage.

After the Lions forced a fumble, 2027 defensive back Jackson Streeter recovered it.

Hamilton’s defense was able to hold Liberty to just three points, however, after the turnover.

2027 kicker Koen Broadley hit a 32-yard field goal to put the first points on the board.

For the rest of the first quarter, neither offense gained momentum or scored.

Around halfway through the second quarter, Liberty started to get their ground game going and were able to find the end zone first in the contest. The big play in the drive was when Liberty 2029 tight end Jayden Sellers hauled in a 55-yard catch on one of the first plays of the drive.

Then finishing off the drive, Liberty 2027 running back Jayden Sanchez had a few plays that saw him break loose for multiple chunk plays.

Sanchez once again got the ball and this time punched in a touchdown from two yards out to extend the Lions lead.

Trailing 10-0 early in the game, the Huskies offense was able to respond by getting a touchdown of their own.

In what was the biggest play of the game for them, 4-star 2028 quarterback Jax Sculley connected with 4-star 2029 wide receiver Roman Oliver who proceeded to then take the ball 55 yards to the end zone for six points.

The play is exactly what Hamilton needed to get into the game.

However, the Lions went right back down the field to score again and took away all of the Huskies' momentum.

Closing out the first half, 2029 quarterback Jason Haines fired a quick pass to 2027 wide receiver Carter Rothe for a 26-yard touchdown.

At halftime, Liberty led 17-7.

The last 24 minutes of the game saw Liberty dominate and completely run away with the game.

On their opening drive in the second half, the Lions committed to the run game, and it paid off.

Once again, Liberty looked to Sanchez to use his legs to move the ball down the field, and on one of the plays, he had a big 33-yard pickup.

He then capped off the drive with a 19-yard scamper into the end zone.

Sanchez described the Liberty offense tonight as ground and pound.

“It’s ground and pound,” Sanchez said. “It’s a physical sport, and that’s what we do.”

Things went from good to great for the Lions.

As during the kickoff following the score, Liberty forced another fumble that gave them the ball back immediately with great field position.

The drive then saw 2028 running back Gavin Lombardi find the end zone after he powered his way up the gut for a 2-yard score.

All of a sudden, it felt like the game was out of reach.

For the rest of the game, the Lions kept focusing on their rushing attack, and it kept paying dividends.

The final score of the contest saw Haines call his own number and score a 15-yard rushing touchdown.

Liberty took down Hamilton in a commanding fashion and proved to the state of Arizona that they are one of the teams to beat this year.

The Lions now move to 7-1 on the season and look to stay level-headed as they ramp up to head into the playoffs.

“We just need to stay level-headed,” Haines said. “We don’t let this win go to our heads, and we come back to work tomorrow morning.”

Next up: 7-1 Liberty looks to continue their win streak when they face 5-3 O’Connor. 7-1 Hamilton looks to bounce back after the loss when they face 0-8 Cactus Canyon.
