Players from Arizona traveled to Nevada to participate in the invite-only Battle Las Vegas, which is one of the biggest and most competitive 7v7 tournaments of the year.
Here is a recap of the games/teams we covered on Saturday:
Tucson Turf Blue
The first game of pool play for the dominant Tucson Turf team was versus Charg1ng (OH).
Tucson Turf Blue got out to a quick start as Basha 2027 quarterback Jake Rogers delivered a dot to Timpview (UT) 4-star 2028 wide receiver Dennis Tua’one for the first score of the game.
Following the first touchdown, Tucson Turf would go into their bag of tricks.
After catching the first touchdown, Tua’one would throw the second as he connected with ALA Queen Creek 3-star 2027 tight end Talan Scott.
Tucson Turf Blue would have three different players throw touchdown passes against Charg1ng (OH).
The last touchdown pass of the game was thrown by Williams Field 2027 quarterback Dominick Barjona.
Turf dominated in game one, beating Charg1ng (OH) 26-9.
In game two, Turf would face off against Cold Hearts (FL).
Trailing the game early, the offense for Tucson Turf Blue needed to make a splash.
Making one of the plays of the day was Desert Edge 4-star 2027 wide receiver Zerek Sidney, as he made a great catch for a touchdown that was thrown by Rogers.
Connecting in back-to-back drives were Rogers and Sidney to give Turf its first lead of the contest.
Tucson Turf Blue would end up running away with the game from that point on.
Barjona would cap the game off with two touchdown passes.
The first one was to Scott, and the second touchdown pass was to Basha 2027 wide receiver Christian Diaz.
Tucson Turf Blue would move to 2-0 in pool play as they beat Cold Hearts (FL) 30-12.
For their third and final pool play game of the day, Tucson Turf Blue would go against another Arizona team in Five Stars.
Dominating as he did in the first two games, Scott would snag two touchdown catches from Rogers in Turf’s first couple of drives.
Five Stars would keep it close for a majority of the game as Chandler 4-star 2027 quarterback Will Mencl threw multiple great passes for touchdowns.
Turf would prove to be too much for Five Stars, though, as they would finish with a convincing 32-14 win.
Tucson Turf Blue finished pool play 3-0 and with the #3 seed for bracket play on Sunday.
AZ Dolphins
The AZ Dolphins have looked like one of the best 7’s teams in the country this year, and that proved to be the case on Saturday.
Looking sharp once again for the Dolphins was Queen Creek 2028 quarterback Saywer Hales, who had multiple great passes to his receiving core.
That core included some great catches from Horizon 2027 wide receiver James Klopfenstein, Arcadia 2027 wide receiver Konner Kammes, McClintock 2027 athlete Aidan Whitaker, Centennial 2028 wide receiver Jason Lee, and Liberty 2029 running back Joseph Montana.
They went 3-0 in pool play with wins over GATA Turnt (NV), Pink Hearts (UT), and Highlight Realm (CA).
The AZ Dolphins enter bracket play Sunday as the #8 seed.
AZ Blazers
The AZ Blazers had multiple players who stood out on the first day of the tournament.
One of those players was AZ Compass 2027 quarterback Cash White, who delivered some great deep bombs.
Of those deep bombs, the best one was to AZ Compass 2027 wide receiver Dom Hawkins for a one-play touchdown.
Making one of the most impactful plays of the game was AZ Compass 2027 athlete Hyneef Thomas, who snagged a game-winning interception over Crab5 (TX).
AZ Compass finished their pool play 1-2.
D1 5 Star
D1 5 Star has some of the best compiled talent in Arizona and looked to make a statement in pool play.
In game one, they would face one of the best teams in the entire bracket, LoPro 1 (NV/HI).
D1 5 Star would fall behind quickly as they trailed by two possessions.
Gaining some momentum around the middle of the game, they finally found the end zone.
Corona Del Sol 2027 quarterback Luke Farrell connected with Higley 2027 wide receiver Terry Richardson in the middle of the field for a score.
They would come back the next drive and score right away.
It was once again Farrell making the pass, this time to Westwood 2027 running back Keshawn Barkus on a checkdown.
D1 5 Star fell just short of a comeback attempt, however, as they lost to LoPro 1 (NV/HI) 18-14.
For their second game of the day, D1 5 Star would face a Canadian team in MVP (ON).
They would make an opening statement in game two after losing game one.
Higley 2028 quarterback Cayden Schlueter found Barkus for a touchdown, then once again on the conversion as Barkus made a contested snag.
D1 5 Star would pile onto their lead.
Schlueter threw his second touchdown pass of the game to Mountain Pointe 2028 wide receiver Makai Nelson.
The defense for D1 5 Star came through as well as Perry 2028 defensive back Jordan Williams, who would snatch a pass for an interception.
Finishing out the game was once again the connection of Schlueter to Nelson for a long touchdown.
D1 5 Star would go on to beat MVP (ON) 29-19.
For the final game of pool play, D1 5 Star would go head-to-head against Milllz (IN).
Getting out to a fast lead, D1 5 Star scored on their opening drive as Schlueter found Barkus on a quick pass for a touchdown.
Once again, the defense for D1 5 Star came through, as this time Mountain Pointe 2028 athlete Legarrette Blounte Jr grabbed an interception (brace yourself for all the random Eagles and Patriots fans that will likely jump in the replies and say "I'm old").
D1 5 Star and Milllz (IN) would proceed to go back and forth with scores.
Farrell threw a perfect pass to Higley 2027 wide receiver Allan Turner in the back of the endzone for a touchdown.
Then once again, it was the duo of Schlueter and Barkus connecting for another score.
Ultimately, the game would result in a 24-24 tie after D1 led 16-2 at one point.
D1 5 Star would finish their pool play 1-1-1 and the #34 seed.
