Scottsdale Christian Wins Second 2A Baseball Title in 5 Seasons

The Scottsdale Christian Eagles completed a dominant season as they took down the Benson Bobcats 7-3 in the 2A championship game.

Having to carry the pressure of a great program is no easy challenge, but Scottsdale Christian head coach Dillon Eaves said it was great to finish the mission.

“The program has some history with coaches before us; you have to carry that pressure that weight,” Eaves said. “Finishing the job was awesome.”

Opening up the game, both teams' pitchers dueled it out and kept forcing outs on both sides.

Scottsdale Christian 2026 pitcher Dylan Tims came out of the game on fire, forcing pop flies and even striking out a few batters.

The same could be said, though, for Benson 2026 pitcher Kellen Deskins, who would also force quick outs and got out of the first two innings without allowing hits.

It would take until the third inning for the first run of the game to be scored.

The Bobcats struck first after they got bases loaded.

With two outs and bases loaded, 2026 Rawley Evans was patient at the plate and drew an RBI walk.

Scoring on the walk was 2027 Kolttin Deskins.

The Eagles lessened the damage as they got out of the bases-loaded situation and only allowed one run.

In the bottom of the third, the Eagles would end up going on a nice run.

During the inning, the Bobcats committed four errors, which the Eagles capitalized on every one of.

Getting the Eagles on the board was Tims who found a gap in center field and allowed 2026 catcher Connor Callaway to get to home plate.

The runs kept coming in for the Eagles.

2027 first baseman Owen Kendrick hit a two-RBI triple.

Running to home plate was 2027 right fielder Dominic Dickerson and 2029 center fielder Ben Watkins.

Capping off the five-run inning was 2026 second baseman David Anderson, who hit a ball to right field for a RBI single.

Scoring the run was 2026 left fielder Colton Stravitz.

All of a sudden, the Eagles held a 5-1 lead after three innings.

The bottom of the fourth inning would see Scottsdale Christian extending their lead.

Benson could not get out of their own way as they committed another error on a pop fly.

A routine pop fly was dropped, which then allowed Scottsdale Christian 2027 center fielder Connor Horton to score.

Then, for one last run in the bottom of the fourth, Stravitz hit a ball near the center field wall for a sacrifice fly.

Tagging from third base, Callaway was able to have enough time to score the run.

It would take until the sixth inning for Benson to put another run on the board.

Chipping away at the Eagles' lead, 2028 Byron Judd hit an RBI single that brought 2026 Dawson Judd in for the score.

Heading into the seventh and final inning, Scottsdale Christian held a commanding 7-2 lead.

Benson would not go away and applied pressure.

Immediately, the Bobcats got two runners on base with no outs.

The Eagles regrouped and forced a double play with only one more out to go.

Still fighting, the Bobcats put another run on the board.

Benson 2029 Gage Strouse hit a RBI single that allowed Dawson Judd to score the run.

However, it was too little too late for the Bobcats as the Eagles would secure the final out.

The final at bat saw the ball travel to right field, where Dickerson snagged it for the final out, declaring Scottsdale Christian as the 2026 2A state champions.

Dickerson said he was ready for his opportunity and to make a play on the ball.

“Honestly, I was just waiting for my time,” Dickerson said. “Baseball is a game where you get limited opportunities. I was just waiting for my opportunity, when it was in the air, I was excited to make a play.”

Winning the game MVP was Tims who pitched all seven innings efficiently and was also great at the plate.

Tims remained calm under pressure with the final at-bats and was glad his team finally did it.

“We finally did it,” Tims said. ‘I’ve been dreaming of this moment for years. My whole high school career, it’s been my goal.”

Scottsdale Christian went 22-1 on the season and completely dominated.

Every player and coach played a part in bringing the trophy back to Scottsdale Christian.

“Team win, team season,” Eaves said. “Everyone played a part in this team. From coaching staff to senior to freshman.”
