#25 Sun Devils Fall 5-2 on the Road to Rice

HOUSTON – The No. 25 Sun Devil women's tennis team (6-3) ended its trip to Houston, Texas, with a 5-2 loss to Rice Sunday afternoon. ASU dropped the doubles point, but five-of-six singles matches went to a third set or tiebreaker and the Sun Devils celebrated tandem Sammi Hampton/Marianna Argyrokastriti earning their seventh consecutive doubles win to remain undefeated.

After Turkovic/Morlet fell 6-3 on court two, Argyrokastriti/Hampton defeated Rice's Bowtell/V Smirnova 6-4 on court three. The doubles point was decided on court one where No. 50 John-Baptiste/Hattingh fell to Rice's Budin/El Jardi, 6-3.

After dropping courts six and four, the Sun Devils didn't have enough in the tank to complete the comeback and erase the Owls' 3-0 lead. No. 37 Ilze Hattingh defeated Rice's Victoria Smirnova 7-5, 1-6, 6-4, and Argyrokastriti defeated Maria Budin 7-6, 6-7, 1-0, but No. 115 Sammi Hampton, Lauryn John-Baptiste, and Giulia Morlet each fell in their third sets.
