Rincon/University boys basketball will be fast, flexible, balanced in move to 6A

HEAD COACH

Rich Utter, 32nd season

2019-20 AT A GLANCE

Overall record: 5-13

Region record: 3-7 (tied for fourth place in 5A Sonoran)

Playoffs: None

ALL-REGION PLAYERS DEPARTED

F Toate Sika, defensive player of the year, second team

F Sam Peters, honorable mention

G Diondre Andres, honorable mention

PLAYERS TO WATCH

G Rene Felix, sr., 5-11

Felix will have the ball in his hands early and often this season. He was a second-team all-5A Sonoran honoree as a junior.

F/C Elliot Chubon, sr., 6-4

Chubon received all-Sonoran honorable mention in 2019-20. He’ll help lead a Rangers team that hopes to do much better this season with many of its best players back for their senior year.

G Jordan Drew, sr., 5-8

Drew will step into a much bigger role after the departure of honorable mention all-region guard Diondre Andres.

OUTLOOK

The Rangers have more than 30 years of success under Utter. After a 5-13 campaign in 2019-20, they’ll try to get back to winning this winter.

According to Utter, the team will look to play fast, flexible and balanced as the program moves up to 6A. A strong senior class appears capable of filling the holes left by graduation (Peters and Andres) and transfer (Sika, now at Tucson Prep).
