LTAS Founder Brandon Jones Hired for CoSIDA’s Minority Internship

Brandon Jones has been hired as CoSIDA’s intern for the 2021-22 academic year. A recent graduate of Arizona State University, Jones will assist the CoSIDA staff with projects and programs while gaining experience and networking with its athletics communications professionals.

Jones is the second person hired for the role designed to support opportunities for minorities aspiring to work in athletics communications.

“CoSIDA remains committed to supporting our mission with actions in our work in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion — which is why it is a priority for us to continue this internship program for young people of color, “CoSIDA President Cindy Potter of Columbia College (Mo.) said. “Brandon’s student experience in athletics communications, his wide range of abilities in sports media and his perspective will provide great value to our organization.”

Jones earned his bachelor’s degree in sports journalism from Arizona State earlier this year.

While at Arizona State, Jones served as a media relations intern with Sun Devil Athletics, assisting with game-day operations, Zoom conferences, photo, video, graphic, and social media content, and articles on the website for several Sun Devil sports programs.

Jones had an opportunity to help Sun Devil men’s and women’s golf, along with a few other visiting teams, with social media photo and video content during the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona that the programs hosted.

“I am looking forward to working with great leaders in the sports information industry and gaining valuable experience and connections over the course of this academic year,” Jones said of his new role with CoSIDA. “I hope to bring positive change and a new voice to an underappreciated industry.”

A native of Bellevue, Washington, Jones will remain in the Phoenix area and continue his part-time position as a sports producer with iHeart Radio while also continuing to expand his sports media company, Let’s Talk About Sports & BJ Media.

With iHeart, he writes the scripts for the midday weekend sports anchor in the Eastern region while also filling in as needed during the week. BJ Media is his freelance photo and video department of the company Let’s Talk About Sports, which provides photo, video and graphic services to athletes primarily in the Greater Phoenix area as well as Sacramento, Las Vegas, and more cities soon to come out West.

The CoSIDA staff reviewed 29 applications for the position before interviewing three finalists.

"Our goal for Brandon is giving him a wide range of experiences that will help his professional growth and prepare him for success in his career," CoSIDA Executive Director Doug Vance said. "He comes to us highly recommended and he clearly stood out in the interview phase of the process. We greatly appreciate the support and partnership of the NFL in helping CoSIDA in its efforts in addressing diversity interests in our organization."

Jones' internship will culminate with the 2022 CoSIDA Convention to be held June 26-29 at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.
